As Korea rapidly becomes an aging society, the welfare of the elderly is considered important, which makes beauty service at the center of the spotlight in terms of the availability and effectiveness. Therefore, this study aims to examine the use characteristics of beauty service and suggest vitalization suggestions by carrying out in-depth interviews with the elderly institution residents.
As the result of the interviews with 10 female residents of the institution located in Gyeonggi Province, the vitalization suggestions were drawn from three perspectives: beauty service, beauty service providers, and beauty service facility. For service itself, it is necessary to expand the scope of service currently limited to the hair to the body massage where there exits clear common demand. In the case of beauty service providers, providers are needed to conduct technical service in a prompt manner. Lastly, there should be a separate service space only for the beauty service for proper sanitation and convenience.
Considering the high emotional utility of beauty service, it is imperative that the service reflect the needs of the elderly institution residents so that it can ultimately improve the welfare for the aged in the near future.
